CVE-2026-120229
Overview
This vulnerability is a remote OS command injection affecting the WAVLINK WN553X1-B device. The root cause lies in improper sanitization of the file_id argument passed to the sub_416B50 function within the /bin/ioos binary. This allows crafted input to be executed as system commands on the affected component.
Vulnerability Description
A vulnerability has been found in WAVLINK WN553X1-B 260403_2.0.0. This issue affects the function sub_416B50 of the file /bin/ioos. The manipulation of the argument file_id leads to os command injection. The attack is possible to be carried out remotely. The exploit has been disclosed to the public and may be used. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure.
Impact
An attacker with network access and elevated privileges can execute arbitrary operating system commands remotely on the affected device. This can lead to full system compromise, including unauthorized data access, configuration manipulation, and persistent control over the device. Exploitation does not require user interaction but does require the attacker to have high-level privileges, enabling lateral movement or disruption of network services.
Solution
WAVLINK has been notified of this vulnerability and recommends updating the WN553X1-B device firmware to a version that addresses this issue. Users should consult the vendor's official advisory and download the latest firmware release corresponding to their device model. Applying the vendor-provided patch as per instructions on the WAVLINK support site or referenced advisories is essential to mitigate the vulnerability.
