CVE-2026-116606

CRITICAL Pub 02/11 Upd 03/11

Overview

This vulnerability is an authentication bypass affecting the configuration-import functionality of Barracuda Email Security Gateway (ESG) versions prior to 9.4.0.030. The root cause is the lack of proper authentication validation when invoking the configuration import feature, allowing unauthenticated remote access. The affected component is the configuration-import mechanism responsible for restoring backup archives on the appliance.

Vulnerability Description

An authentication bypass in Barracuda Email Security Gateway versions earlier than 9.4.0.030 allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to invoke a configuration-import function and restore a crafted, compatible backup archive, resulting in unauthorized modification of the appliance’s global configuration.

Impact

An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability to modify the global configuration of the Barracuda Email Security Gateway appliance. This unauthorized configuration change can lead to persistent compromise of email filtering policies, security controls, or administrative settings. No authentication or user interaction is required, enabling attackers to bypass access controls and potentially disrupt email security or gain further footholds within the network environment.

Solution

Barracuda Networks has addressed this vulnerability in Barracuda Email Security Gateway version 9.4.0.030. Administrators should upgrade to this version or later to remediate the issue. Detailed patch instructions and advisory information are available at the vendor's security advisory page: https://trust.barracuda.com/security/pre-authentication-authorization-bypass-command-injection. No specific workarounds are provided in the advisory.
