CVE-2026-85046
Overview
This vulnerability is a type confusion flaw within the V8 JavaScript engine used by Google Chrome. The root cause lies in improper type handling during JavaScript object operations, leading to memory misinterpretation. The affected component is the V8 engine in Chrome versions prior to 152.0.7977.82, where crafted JavaScript can manipulate internal object types improperly.
Vulnerability Description
Type confusion in V8 in Google Chrome prior to 152.0.7977.82 allowed a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code inside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: High)
Impact
An attacker can execute arbitrary code within the Chrome sandbox, potentially leading to full compromise of the browser process. This enables unauthorized actions such as data theft, execution of malicious scripts, or further exploitation of the host system. Exploitation requires only that a user visits or interacts with a malicious webpage, with no prior authentication needed. The real-world consequence includes potential breach of user data confidentiality and integrity, as well as disruption of browser security boundaries.
Solution
Google Chrome users should update to version 152.0.7977.82 or later to remediate this issue. The fix is included in the stable channel update announced on September 2026, detailed at https://chromereleases.googleblog.com/2026/09/stable-channel-update-for-desktop_01882797386.html. Administrators should apply this update promptly to mitigate exploitation risks. No additional workarounds are specified in the advisory.
