CVE-2026-76460
Overview
This vulnerability is an authentication bypass caused by insufficient authentication controls on a specific API endpoint within Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) Software. The root cause lies in the failure of the API to properly validate authentication tokens or credentials before granting access. The affected component is the web-based management interface API, which exposes sensitive administrative functions without enforcing authentication checks.
Vulnerability Description
A vulnerability in an API of Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass authentication. This vulnerability is due to insufficient authentication control on an API endpoint. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted request to an affected API endpoint. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to gain unauthorized access to the affected device by bypassing the web-based management interface.
Impact
An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability to bypass authentication and gain unauthorized administrative access to the Cisco ISE device. This access allows full control over the management interface, potentially leading to unauthorized configuration changes, data exposure, and disruption of network access control policies. No prior authentication or user interaction is required, enabling attackers to compromise device integrity and confidentiality remotely.
Solution
Cisco has released a security advisory (cisco-sa-ISE-ABP-VNSW7Tn5) recommending immediate upgrade to fixed Cisco ISE software versions that address this authentication bypass vulnerability. Administrators should apply the patches provided in the advisory to affected Cisco ISE versions. Detailed patch instructions and version-specific fixes are available at Cisco's security center URL: https://sec.cloudapps.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-ISE-ABP-VNSW7Tn5.
