CVE-2026-58882

HIGH POC Pub 02/11 Upd 06/11

Overview

This vulnerability is an integer overflow leading to an out-of-bounds read in the decodeWapPdu function within the WapPushOverSms.java component of Google Android. The flaw arises from improper validation of input data length during the decoding process of WAP Push over SMS messages, causing memory access beyond allocated bounds. The affected component is responsible for processing incoming WAP Push messages in the Android telephony framework.

Vulnerability Description

In decodeWapPdu of WapPushOverSms.java, there is a possible out of bounds read due to an integer overflow. This could lead to a remote denial of service with no additional execution privileges needed. User interaction is not needed for exploitation.

Impact

An attacker can remotely cause a denial of service on affected Android devices by sending a malicious WAP Push SMS, resulting in application or system crashes without requiring user interaction or authentication. This disruption can affect device availability and telephony functionality, potentially impacting business operations reliant on mobile communications.

Solution

Google recommends applying the security updates provided in the Android Security Bulletin dated 2026-11-01. Users should update affected Google Android devices to the latest available patch level as outlined in the bulletin at https://source.android.com/docs/security/bulletin/2026/2026-11-01. No specific workarounds are noted; timely application of the vendor-supplied update is advised.
