CVE-2026-120276
Overview
This vulnerability is a remote OS command injection in the WAVLINK WN536AX6-A router firmware version V260507_2.0.0. The root cause lies in improper input validation of the argument 'group_name' within the function sub_416760 located in the /bin/ioos binary, part of the Web Management Interface component. This allows untrusted input to be executed as system commands due to direct injection into shell commands without sanitization.
Vulnerability Description
A weakness has been identified in WAVLINK WN536AX6-A V260507_2.0.0. This vulnerability affects the function sub_416760 of the file /bin/ioos of the component Web Management Interface. This manipulation of the argument group_name causes os command injection. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. The exploit has been made available to the public and could be used for attacks. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure.
Impact
An unauthenticated remote attacker can execute arbitrary operating system commands on the device with elevated privileges by exploiting this vulnerability. This enables full system compromise, including unauthorized access to sensitive data, modification of device configurations, and potential lateral movement within the network. No user interaction or credentials are required, allowing attackers to remotely control the device and disrupt network operations or deploy persistent malware.
Solution
WAVLINK has been notified and recommends updating the WN536AX6-A firmware to a patched version beyond V260507_2.0.0 once available. Administrators should monitor official WAVLINK advisories and apply firmware updates promptly. Refer to the vendor’s security advisory and update instructions at https://vuldb.com/vuln/429620 for detailed patching guidance and version release notes.
