CVE-2026-93577
Overview
This vulnerability is an integer overflow flaw in GitLab's CI/CD pipeline configuration processing. Specifically, the issue arises when compiling a specially crafted regular expression, causing an integer overflow that compromises the regex compiler's internal state. The affected component is the regular expression engine used during CI/CD job configuration parsing in GitLab Community and Enterprise Editions across multiple versions prior to 19.2.7, 19.3.3, and 19.4.1.
Vulnerability Description
GitLab has remediated an issue in GitLab CE/EE affecting all versions from 19.2 before 19.2.7, 19.3 before 19.3.3, and 19.4 before 19.4.1 that under certain conditions could have allowed an authenticated user to execute arbitrary code on the GitLab server due to an integer overflow issue when compiling a specially crafted regular expression in a CI/CD configuration.
Impact
An attacker with a low-privileged authenticated GitLab account can execute arbitrary code on the server hosting GitLab by leveraging this vulnerability. This grants the attacker the ability to escalate privileges, access sensitive data, modify configurations, or disrupt service operations. The exploit does not require elevated privileges beyond authentication and does not depend on user interaction beyond submitting a crafted CI/CD pipeline configuration, enabling potential full system compromise and lateral movement within the infrastructure.
Solution
GitLab has released patched versions addressing this issue in GitLab CE/EE 19.2.7, 19.3.3, and 19.4.1. Administrators should upgrade affected GitLab instances to these versions or later. Detailed patch instructions and release notes are available at https://docs.gitlab.com/releases/patches/patch-release-gitlab-19-4-1-released/. No alternative mitigations or workarounds are documented; upgrading is the recommended remediation.
